Marriage License

If you are coming in to our office for a marriage license please be to our office no later than 4:00.

 

Marriage Licenses:

 

If you can answer yes to one of these three questions you can get your license in Morton County. If one of these rules do not apply, your license will not be valid.

  •     One of us lives in Morton County
  •     My parent(s) live in Morton County
  •     My marriage ceremony is in Morton County

Requirements when applying for a marriage license 

  •     Both parties need to be present
  •     Valid Identification
  •     $65 cash or credit card (cards have a $3 fee) 
  •     Certified Copy of Divorce Decree from most recent marriage. (You can obtain a certified copy of your divorce decree from the Clerk of Court in the county that your divorce took place.) The decree will be kept by our office with your application.
  •     If you are getting married by the Recorder you will also need the payment for your ceremony. $30 cash or card for ceremony at the courthouse. This fee will have to be paid when you set the ceremony up and the Recorders Office will keep your license in the office until the day of the ceremony.  Call for pricing for out of courthouse ceremonies.
  •     If one or both applicants don't speak English, the applicants will need to bring a translator with to apply for the license and to the ceremony if they are getting married by the Recorder. 

 

Age Requirements: applicant must be 18 years of age or older. If a person is 16 or 17 years of age, a marriage license may be issued ONLY with consent of the parents or guardian. A marriage license may not be issued to any person under the age of 16, notwithstanding the consent of the parents or guardian of said person.

Ceremonies: 

The Recorders office doesn't schedule ceremonies for the same day the license is purchased. For more information call 701-667-3305.

 

Courthouse

  • The Recorders Office will keep your license at our office.
  • $30 fee (must be paid for at the time you setup the ceremony) - $3 credit card fee for using a card or can be paid in cash
  • Will need 2 witnesses but can have more guests if you wish.

 

Offsite Ceremony

  • Call for pricing or email nancy.seefeldt@mortonnd.gov.
  • Ceremony needs to be paid for prior to the wedding day.

 


 

Certified Copies:

The fee for a Certified Copy of a Marriage License is: $5.00 for the first certified copy and $2.00 for each additional certified copy.
