Valeri Entzel Memorial Park

This cherished community space, originally named Entzel Acres Park when it opened in 2000, was renamed Valeri Entzel Memorial Park in 2022 to honor a beloved resident, Valeri Entzel. A lifelong Morton County resident, Valeri and her husband, Donald Entzel, farmed and ranched north of Mandan along Highway 1806 on the Entzel family homestead. The farm, purchased by Donald’s parents, Henry and Mathilda (Sommer) Entzel, in 1946, became the heart of the Entzel family legacy.

In 1984, Donald and Valeri, representing the Entzel Family Partnership, began developing their land along the Missouri River. After retiring from farming in 1994, they transformed the surrounding farmland into what is now Entzel Acres Subdivision, home to approximately 140 families. In 1997, the Entzel family generously donated the land for this park to Morton County.

Valeri dedicated 13 years to the Morton County Extension Office and remained actively involved in Morton County 4-H throughout her four children’s lives. She was a familiar face at the Morton County Fair and her local church. In December 2000, Valeri was diagnosed with lung cancer. Her enduring faith, strong character, and deep love for her family helped her navigate a challenging 21-year health journey. In her final week, Valeri expressed her desire to see the work on Entzel Park completed, a wish that would ultimately resonate with her lasting connection to her community and her passion for gardening.

To honor Valeri’s memory, the Morton County Commission dedicated and renamed the park in 2022. In October 2024, a picnic shelter and memorial garden were added to the park, featuring a bench surrounded by vibrant landscaping, flowers, shrubs, and colorful trees Valeri loved. A children’s playground is also planned for this beloved community gathering space.
